Internships
Program
description
This program is established in order to expand the institute’s potential
to welcome foreign students. It coordinates their selection process.
It is aimed specifically at two goals:
- help INRIA researchers host the best interns from a given country;
- give the intern a taste for an international scientific environment and the
desire to return to INRIA for their Ph.D. or their postdoctoral training.
This incentive program organizes the matching between prospective interns
and research project teams at INRIA, and offers a financial participation to
living
expenses in France. Interns are offered a unique opportunity to confront their
previously acquired academic experience to a research community in a foreign
country. The internship is an opportunity for professional and personal development.
Only students enrolled in partner institutions are eligible for this
program .
Partner Institutions
A partner institution is an organization involved with INRIA either
in research or in training through research. The partner institutions may vary
over the years depending on the relationship established between the two partners
or on the funds allocated to this incentive programme.
The foreign partner institution designates a senior faculty who is INRIA's
sole interface. This contact deals at the local level with all questions related
to the program and the selection of internship applicants. The partner institution
is responsible for the qualification and the curriculum planning of the student.
(see list
of the partner institutions)
Eligibility
The Internships Program is open to foreign
students from partner institutions who:
- have completed four to five years of university-level
coursework and who would like to spend a 2- to 6-month internship with an INRIA
team while continuing to prepare their home Engineering School diploma or Master
degree.
- are doctoral students and wish to acquire specific skills available at
INRIA or enrich their curriculum by staying in a foreign research team for
a short
period.
Individual application directly sent to INRIA will not be considered.
Selection process
Two submission deadlines are set every year, in order to accommodate
the varying schedules of engineering schools and universities around the world.
- 1st call in May/June for internships taking place within the period October
to March
- 2nd call in September/October for internships taking place within the period
March to September of each year
INRIA will send to all the local contacts a list of research topics proposed by the INRIA project-teams.
The local contact will select a few number of students from his or her institution. Each student is allowed to apply to a maximum of 5 of the proposed research topics. The local contact will send the resulting list of candidates with their résumés and their chosen research topics to the INRIA-DRI.
After selection by the project team, the names of the accepted students will immediately be forwarded by INRIA-DRI to the local contacts.
Subsequently, each selected candidate must directly contact the INRIA project-team
which has selected him or her to set the starting date and duration of the
internship in relation with the curriculum constraints.
Once a call is closed, the list with the vacant subjects remains
available to Partner Institutions all year long.
Financial conditions
During their stay at INRIA, interns will receive an allowance of approximately
900 Euros per month including medical insurance, free of taxes.
INRIA does not provide financial assistance for travel expenses but solutions
may be explored on a case by case study with the local contact in relation
with INRIA.
Final Evaluation
After completion of the internship, INRIA may provide an evaluation in accordance
with the requirements of the partner institution.
The validation of the internship for the degree credit is subject to the general
rules in force at the intern's home institution.
